The E-C Translation Of Business Biography From The Perspective Of Communicative Translation

Nowadays,a lot of excellent enterprises have sprung up,and each enterprise has its own development history.Business biographies record the foundation and development of these enterprises.Although there are many researches about personal biographies and literary biographies,there are few researches about business biographies.The Airbnb Story tells the growth history of an American company which operates an online marketplace and hospitality service for people to lease or rent short-term lodging.This kind of business biography is aiming to foster a good company image and promote its enterprise culture,thus attracting the eyes of investors and consumers.According to Newmark’s theory,it is a typical vocative text.Newmark divides texts into expressive text,informative text and vocative text.Different translation strategies are applied to different text types,and communicative translation is for informative and vocative texts.This thesis takes the Chapter 2 of The Airbnb Story as an example to study the translation strategies of business biographies.This thesis concludes four parts:The first is the introduction,including the theme,significance and structure of the thesis;the second is the literature review and theoretical framework,including Newmark’s text typology,semantic translation and communicative translation,and the application of Newmark s translation theory;the third is the specific analysis of the application of communicative translation on The Airbnb Story,including words,sentence pattern and discourse.The analysis focuses on three respects.The first is about words,including the explanation of technical terms and the free translation of metaphorical words.The second is about sentence pattern,including the application of active voice and short parallel sentences.The third is about discourse,including the adjustment of logic and appropriate additional translation.
