A Report On The C-E Translation Of Stories From The Chinese Classics:Loyalty And Patriotism

Loyalty and Patriotism is one in book series entitled Stories from the Chinese Classics.It is composed of 30 stories,covering a 2000-year period in Chinese history from the Spring and Autumn period to the reign of Guangxu Emperor of Qing.The 30 stories depict legendary individuals who are praised for their loyalty and patriotism.Targeted at international students at Confucius Institute,the translated book aims to help target readers gain a more in-depth understanding of traditional Chinese culture and Chinese history.In terms of the project requirement,firstly,the target text should be idiomatic and logic;secondly,the translation of historical information is required to be accurate;thirdly,the translation needs to be enriched by supplementary information.This project,in accordance with these requirements,is under the guidance of reception aesthetics,for the target text is to be read by international students at Confucius Institute.Guided by reception aesthetics,the author summarizes a number of translation techniques as dealing with translation problems,and offers corresponding illustrations at both lexical and syntactic levels in this report.At lexical level,the author adopts conversion and translation techniques of technical terms.At syntactic level,the author introduces addition and translation techniques concerned with long sentences.Meanwhile,the author applies other translation techniques with regard to annotation and four-character phrases.Based on the translation project,it is hoped that this report can do good to the enrichment of study of the translation of Chinese classics.
