On The E-C Translation Of Political News From The Perspective Of Skopos Theory

With China’s rise on the international stage,one of public’s top concerns is the international political news with regard to China.China Daily has the widest print circulation of English-language newspaper in China.It is often used as a guide to Chinese government policy,so CD can be seen as the barometer of world political news relating to China,which is also the case study of this report.The examples in the body part of this report are the translations of English-language news I was assigned to translate during my internship in CD website.This report focuses on the perspective of Skopos theory,the core of the functionalist translation theory,which would undoubtedly enlighten the study of E-C translation of current political news.This report is composed of four chapters.Chapter one briefly introduces the original texts chosen and the significance of this report.Chapter two displays the history and definition of Skopos theory,as well as several basic concepts,and then describes the role of Skopos theory in political news translation.Chapter three,the essential part,elaborates on the application of translation strategies into political news from the perspective of Skopos theory at three different levels,namely headlines,sentences and paragraphs.The translation strategies and techniques applied include addition,omission,adaptation,reversion strategies,domestication and foreignization strategies.Chapter four concludes the whole report,summarizing this report and demonstrating its implications.
