Cultural Translation Of Political Texts

Playing a great role in publicizing China to the world are the C-E translations of political texts,which serve as an important window for foreign countries to understand China’s political,economic,cultural and other practical situations and policies.With the global economic integration and the rise of Chinese international status,English translations of Chinese political texts have been playing greater and greater role in telling Chinese stories and disseminating Chinese unique voice to western culture.Studies on the C-E translation of political texts from the perspective of cultural translation will help English readers to appreciate Chinese culture through representing the affective elements in the original texts and to enhance China’s cultural "soft power"through facilitating them to accept Chinese culture.Taking Xi Jinping:the Governance of China as our case study,the present paper offers an account of the characteristics,principles and strategies in English translations of Chinese political texts.Various characteristics,strategies and principles employed in the work for the translation of Chinese-specific words are studied from the perspective of cultural translation theory,and the overall tendency of cultural translation is analyzed.All this will hopefully contribute to the research on and practical operation of C-E translation of political texts.
