| The source text is taken from the first two chapters of Life 3.0: Being Human in the Age of Artificial Intelligence,a popular science book by MIT physicist and tenured professor Max Tegmark. The book first introduces some basic ideas about artificial intelligence, such as memory and computation, and then talks about many focus issues, like the challenges posted by AI to the law and the job, thus providing an overview of the emergence and development of AI.The translation report consists of four parts: task description, process description, case analysis and the conclusion,of which the case analysis is the key part. The author conducts an analysis of the difficulties at the levels of vocabulary, syntax and background knowledge with specific cases related to the book title, terminologies, words, long sentences and parenthesis. In the analysis of the difficulties, the author adopts many translation methods, such as lexical conversion, syntactic linearity, inversion, division, and restructuring. After the practice, the author summarizes the translation experience in popular science, and realizes the importance of computer aided translation tools and the background knowledge. Therefore, the author will continue to improve his translation abilities by training and rethinking, especially from the above aspects. |
