A Practice Report On E-C Translation Of TruMicro 5000 Operator’s Manual

Machinery instruction manuals,as technical texts,play an important role in economic activities.With rapid development of science and technology,many Chinese enterprises often import core equipment from abroad to increase productivity.Therefore,whether these machinery instruction manuals can be successfully translated matters a lot to users.This thesis is a practice report of the translation of TruMicro 5000 Operator’s Manual provided by an engineer of a Laser Research Institute in Nanjing.Under the guidance of Skopos Theory,the author translates and analyzes TruMicro 5000 Operator’s Manual,aiming to explore the characteristics of machinery instruction manuals and probe reasonable translation strategies.This practice report mainly consists of five chapters.This report firstly introduces the content and the purpose of the practice report.Then,the background of the translation program and the translation process are illustrated.Next,it analyzes text features,lexical features and syntactic features of the source text.What’s more,translation difficulties as well as translation strategies are summarized.Finally,translation strategies to the translation program are reflected.During the translation practice,the author masters more knowledge about machinery engineering through extensive reading of parallel texts and literature and lays a good foundation for the translation practice in the field,which benefits a lot in translation practice in the future.
