Chinese characters are one of the oldest characters in the world and have a long history of more than 5,000 years history.When many foreigners look at Chinese characters,they say that they are like a picture.Sri lanka is a non-Chinese cultural circle country,currently there are 15 universities in sri lanka,but only two famous universities,Kelaniya University and Sabaragamuwa University,are undertaking undergraduate education in Chinese.Sinhala language is the main language in Sri Lanka.The Sinhala Letters are round and completely different from Chinese characters,so,it is bound to give no basis.Basic Chinese character Learners have caused difficulty in learning Chinese characters and confusion,especially in terms of small and short Chinese characters education.In view of this,a questionnaire survey was conducted to investigate the current status of Chinese character teaching and learning at Kelaniya University in Sri Lanka.First year,second year,third year students and teachers;then examined the problems of students in learning Chinese characters and teaching Chinese characters.And it causes,At the same time,the article addresses the current status and existing problems and provides some strategies that are suitable for Local teaching.The main content of this article includes:The first chapter is the introduction.This chapter introduces the current situation of Chinese character teaching,including chinese(Han)students Chinese character writing research and Chinese minority students and foreign students Chinese character teaching status.At the same time,the significance of the topic,research value,research goal,research method and innovation are also explained.The second chapter is about the introduction of Chinese teaching in Sri Lanka.It mainly introduces the institutions of Chinese teaching in Sri lanka –Local universities,high schools,Confucius Institutes,Confucius Class and social training institutions and also introduces content of Kelaniya University in Sri Lanka.The third chapter is a survey of the status questioner of Chinese character teaching and learning at Kelaniya University in Sri Lanka.The article based on students and teachers designed to survey questionnaires.(current situation investigation of Chinese Character learning at Kelaniya University in Sri Lanka-Student Questionnaire and the current situation Investigation of Chinese Character teaching at Kelaniya University in Sri Lanka-Teacher Questionnaire),supplemented by “interviews”and other methods,combining quantitative and qualitative methods to teaching Chinese characters at Kelaniya University in Sri Lanka.The investigation was carried out in detail to summarize the existing problems.The fourth chapter is problems and cause of formation of Chinese character teaching and learning at Kelaniya University in Sri Lanka.Based on the student's view,the Chinese Character Classroom Activities and Chinese characters practice are not enough,the students don't attend class,There are too many students and they haven't no interest in Chinese characters;and teachers view,for the Chinese characters teaching not enough time,the language of teaching is the mother tongue and teaching methods and media are traditions.In a nutshell,there is a shortage of teachers,there is no special Chinese character textbooks,and teachers do not pay much attention to Chinese characters Class.The fifth chapter is the countermeasures for teaching and learning Chinese characters at Kelaniya University in Sri Lanka.Including strengthening the construction of teachers and teaching materials,increasing teaching and practice hours,Diversification of teaching methods and student's interest in learning Chinese characters.The final part is to introduce the achievements and basic conclusions of this article.At the same time,it also gives some explanation for the lack of articles.
