Moral outrage is an important kind of moral emotion. It is the anger or disgust that an individual generates as a third party whose interests are not affected when the moral rules are violated. It can motivate the third party to be impartial.Moral emotion is an important content of moral development.Researching children’s moral outrage can increase the understanding of the development of children’s moral emotions and promote children’s moral education. This study seeks to explore the development characteristics of children’s moral outrage and its impact on third-party justice. This study first elaborated on the concepts of moral outrage and third-party justice, development characteristics, research paradigms, and the theory of the influence of moral outrage on the third party’s justice and related research results, and on this basis put forward the general idea of the study. This study is divided into two studies. The first study is to explore the influencing factors of children’s moral outrage. The first study is divided into three experiments. The first experiment of the first study is under a real unfair distribution situation, and it takes 106 children as subjects to explore the influence of age and different types of unfair distribution to children’s moral outrage. It turns out that:(1)children can have moral anger at age 5 and there is a difference in age.Children’s moral outrage develops with age.(2)Types of unfair distribution can affect children’s moral indignation. The moral outrage caused by the unequal distribution of children is significantly higher than the unfair distribution of value.(3)The interaction between age and type of distribution on children’s moral outrage is significant. For five-year-old children, the moral outrage caused by the unfair distribution of numbers is significantly higher than the unfair distribution of values;for children aged 7 and 9 years, there is no significant difference in the moral outrage caused by unfair distribution of numbers and values. The second experiment of the first study adopts self-made stories as material. It takes 121 children in the fourth grade as subjects to explore the intention of the violators and the influence of the victim’s duty to children’s moral outrage. The results show that:(1)Children’s moral outrage is affected by the intention of the offender. The moral outrage caused by the offender’s intentional condition is significantly higher than that of the offender’s unintentional.(2)Children’s moral outrage is influenced by the responsibility of the victim.Moral outrage caused by the victim’s non-responsibility is significantly higher than that of the victim.(3)The intent of the offender and the responsibility of the victim have significant interactions with children’s moral outrage.Under the intentional conditions of the offender, the moral outrage caused by the non-responsibility of the victim is significantly higher than that of the victim; In the unintended conditions of the offender, there is no significant difference in the moral outrage caused by the responsibility and non-responsibility of the victim. This related study explores the relationship between children’s justice sensitivity, empathy and moral outrage. This experiment is conducted through giving out a basic empathy scale, the observer’s justice sensitivity scale, and a self-made unfairly distributed questionnaire to 220 children of the fourth grade,to analyze the relationship between empathy, the fair sensitivity of observers and moral outrage, and the mediating role of empathy between the observer’s fair sensitivity and moral outrage. The results show that:(1)There was a significant positive correlation between the fairness of the observers, empathy and moral outrage.(2)Observers’ justice sensitivity and empathy have a significant positive predictive effect on moral outrage.(3)The justice sensitivity of the observer influences children’s moral outrage through the partial mediation of empathy. The second study is to explore the influence of the third party’s justice to children’s moral outrage. This study, which is under a real unfair distribution situation, takes 57 children in the fourth grade as subjects in order to explore the influence of moral outrage and price condition on children’s third party justice. It turns out that:(1)Moral outrage can affect third-party justice of children.Children who induce moral outrage are more inclined to third-party justice than children who do not induce moral outrage, and are more willing to choose third-party compensation.(2)The price conditions do not affect children’s moral outrage. There is no significant difference in third-party fairness made by children under conditions of non-payment costs.(3)Whether or not there is a price does not affect the third party’s impartiality to children under conditions that induce and not induce moral outrage.
