| The practice report is on the basis of “The International Sculpture Course from the Famous American Sculptor,Alan Colby”,the author’s outdoor stone carving teaching English-Chinese consecutive interpretation practice, which was organized by the School of Art and Design,Shenyang Normal University in May 2017.First,the practice report describes the background, contents and features as well as requirements of the interpreting practice. Then it mainly introduces the preparation before the interpretation, interpreting process and assessment.Third, the author illustrates the theoretical foundation of the practice report,Gill’s Effort Model.Through analyzing the interpreting cases, the author points out the listening comprehension obstacles during the interpreting practice.Meanwhile,a series of effective countermeasures have been proposed for targeted discriminatory obstacles. For example, for high-density source language information, the author puts forward the tactic of distinguishing the primary and secondary information;for more professional terms in the entire process of interpreting, the tactics of paraphrasing or explaining according to the context and asking the speaker on the spot are proposed;and for structures of complex sentences in English language, reconstructing and splitting the source language segment effectively is suggested. In addition to these linguistic obstacles,non-linguistic obstacles can also not be neglected, such as a lack of adequate background knowledge about stone carving,on-site noises, etc. Finally, the author summarizes the practice report and advocates the research for the related fields to exchange ideas with each other so as to provide some reference for the interpreters to strengthen their listening comprehension capabilities and promote the related research. |
