Listening Comprehension In Arabic-chinese Consecutive Interpreting:Obstacles And Coping Strategies

In the process of Arabic-Chinese consecutive interpretation,listening comprehension is the most important part,which is directly related to the output quality of the interpretation.During the interpreting process of the Egyptian President Sisi’s speech in the closing ceremony of the World Youth Forum in 2017,because of obstacles to listening comprehension,this can lead to some interpretation problems like inaccuracy or omission.When the Arab leaders make speeches,they always speak standard Arabic mixed with dialects,which can cause listening comprehension problems.The Arab usually speaks very fast,and sentences mostly are long,and sentence structure is complex,it can convey a lot of information in a short period.This paper hopes to analyze and find out the coping strategies by helping the interpreters to understand the listening comprehension better through listening to the Arabic dialects,listening to the long sentences,logical structural factors,inadequate background knowledge of the speakers,and lack of relevant Arab cultural background.This paper divides listening comprehension obstacles into two types: one type is mastering of the language,the second type is lack of extra-linguistic knowledge,the writer tries to find out coping strategies by analyzing cause studies.
