To discuss the effect of gesture on verb processing in the perspective of Embodied Cognition.Gesture not only plays an important role in people's communieation and learning, the hand is an important part of the body, and the corresponding motor cortex can be activated when doing corresponding action.Foreign studies have shown that related body movements promote conceptual processing(e.g.,foreign language learning, abstract concepts,etc.).At present, the lack of body movement in this field is the study of the influence of gestures on the native language learning of Chinese. To explore how the use of gestures influences on the processing of verbs and the cerebral basis of gestures from the perspective of embodied cogn-ition in this study, thereby verifying the "embodied effect" of gestures on language learrning and understanding. In this experiment,we selected German vocabulary as the study materials and randomly divided college students into two groups:one is the experimental group who used the gesture to learn German vocabulary, the other is the control group who did not.The first experiment was a kind of behavioral experiment where 60 participants would be tested after learning German vocabulary in 5 minutes, whieh was to test the accuracy and reaction time. The second experiment required the two group of participants which are 42 in total to study German vocabulary well and then judge the consistency in hand gestures video materials and the German vocabulary it presented. We adopted a method of mix design 2(experiment groups:the experimental group and control group)*2(consistency:consistent and inconsistent),which combined the behavior al experiments with electrical experiments, and explored the embodied effect of gestures use on German vocabulary learning and got the behavioral and ERPs evidence; The results showed that the accuracy of the experimental group was evidently higher than that of the control group, and the main effect of experimental group in time reaction was distinct, which is shorter than that of the control group in the first experiment. In the second experiment, the main effect of the experimental group in accuracy and time reaction were both distinct. The accuracy of experimental group was higher than that of the control group, and the time reaction of experimental group was shorter than that of the control group. The condition of consistency in the main effect was distinct. In the results of ERPs,Nl,P200 and N400 components were induced during the period of-200ms to 1000ms,and the main effect of experimental group and the consistency of the stimulus material on average amplitude were both distinct. On the N1 component, the amplitude of the experimental group is larger than that of the control group, and the consistent amplitude of the stimulus material is greater than the inconsistent condition; In the P200 component, the amPlitude of the experimental group was less than that of the control group, and the consistent amplitude of the stimulus material was less than the inconsistent condition; On the N400 component, the amplitude of the experimental group was larger than that of the control group, and the consistent amplitude of the stimulus material was less than that of the inconsistent condition. The three components did not have the interaction of the experimental group and the consistency condition of the stimulus material. In conclusion:(1)The use of gesture can promote the Chinese learners' understanding and memory in German verb learning;(2)In the processing of verbs,"body experience"and the consistfency of stimulus materials are main factors in influencing word processing. In consistent conditions,it can have higher accuracy and faster response, and it can activate the action words faster and more accurately with hand gestures-a kind of body experience,The use of indicative hand gestures help individuals to reduce the consumption of cognitive resources in the processing of action words;(3)Gestures,as physical experience, have a" Embodied effect"when learning verbs.
