A Study On Embodied Cognition Of Predicate Metaphor In Modern Chinese

Human thought processes are metaphor-based.The realization of advanced cognitive activities through language all depends on the participation of "body" and the coordination of metaphors.However,the research on modern Chinese metaphor from the perspective of embodied cognition needs to be further studied,and the understanding and processing mechanism of modern Chinese verbal metaphor is still unknown.This research adopts corpus analysis method and structural analysis method,and comprehensively uses conceptual metaphor theory and embodied cognition theory to conduct research on predicate metaphor in modern Chinese,and further expand and improve the understanding of metaphor and embodiment.The research is mainly divided into four parts.The first part,with the hand language in modern Chinese as the starting point,discusses the characteristics of the embodiment of modern Chinese from the three levels of hand verbs,hand metaphors,hand action language and its metaphorical functions.In the second part,the high frequency hand two-syllable verbs are selected as research materials,and the metaphorical ability and embodiment of hand verbs are coded,and the data are statistically analyzed.Through mathematical analysis,this paper explores the relationship between metaphor and embodiment of hand verbs and the relationship between metaphor and embodiment of verbs.The third part,starting from the metaphorical verb-object relationship between verbs and nouns,discusses the characteristics and internal mechanism of verbal metaphor and its embodied nature at the level of word combination.In the fourth part,according to the conceptual metaphor theory,the classification of metaphor is studied from three dimensions of orientation metaphor,ontological metaphor and structural metaphor,and the basic process of realizing metaphor of hand verb-object phrase and the processing mechanism of verbal metaphor understanding are explored.Based on the study of metaphorical verb-object phrases,a processing model of "one base,two dimensions and two steps" for verbal metaphor comprehension is proposed.It is found that modern Chinese has significant characteristics of body,and hand verbs account for the largest proportion of body verbs in modern Chinese,with strong metaphorical expressiveness.Metaphorical gestures can realize cognitive functions by facilitating and utilizing spatial movement information,The "spatialized" gesture hypothesis proposed in the study holds that the understanding of abstract concepts is rooted in the perceptual movement of hands in space,and gestures can effectively transform non-spatial movement information into spatial movement information,improve the visual or kinesthetic representation of information,reduce cognitive load,and promote problem solving.At the lexical level,there is a significant negative relationship between metaphor and embodiment of hand verbs,and the metaphorical function of hand verbs is mainly realized through word collocation.At the level of verb-object collocation,hand verbs have a strong ability of metaphorical substitution,and their metaphorical implication is significantly affected by the embodiment of hand verbs.On the understanding and processing level of metaphorical verb-object phrases of hands,metaphor is mainly realized through "analogy" and "metonymy".Through the development of this research,the characteristics of semantic processing and somatosensory motor participation in the understanding of modern Chinese predicate metaphors,as well as the relationship between metaphor and embodiment in modern Chinese,are explored,which promotes the localization of predicate metaphor research.In this study,the hand verbs and their metaphorical verb-object collocation are taken as the starting point to study the influence of body parts and their actions on predicate metaphor comprehension and make clear the characteristics of predicate metaphor processing and comprehension in modern Chinese verb-object phrases.The "one-base,two-dimensional,two-step" processing model of verb metaphor processing and the "spatialization" gesture hypothesis proposed by the research fill the gaps in related research fields.In addition,several corpora with strong direction and description,such as corpus of commonly used two-word verbs of hand,corpus of commonly used metaphorical verb-object phrases of hand,and corpus of commonly used metaphorical verb-object phrases of hand,have been further formed in the research,which has certain positive significance for the development of subsequent research.
