| Emotion is our attitude experience to external things in life,it affects the cognitive processing to some extent.and the effect of emotion on cognition has gradually become the focus of psychological research.Cognitive inhibition is an important component of cognition, which can embody the ability of the individual to actively inhibit the processing of information unrelated to the current task.In recent years,Gable et al’s motivational dimensional model of affect emphasizes that emotion is also has a third dimension which is the motivation,in addition to the valence and arousal dimension. The theoretical model holds that the low motivation type of emotion can extend the cognitive processing, and the emotional type of high motivation should narrow the cognitive processing. In the course of human evolution, negative emotions are of special significance to the survival and development of the individual. The findings of the previous studies on the effects of negative emotions on cognitive processing are inconsistent.Inspired by the motivetional dimensional model of affect,it found that the motivational dimension was rarely considered. Therefore, this study examines the effect of negative emotion on cognitive inhibition from the perspective of emotional motivation. In this study, two experiments are included.we investigat the effect of different avoidance motivational intensity on cognitive inhibition by behavioral experiments firstly. Then useing ERPs technology to investigate the time course of the neural mechanisms of avoidance mitivational emotion influencing the cognitive inhibition. In the first experiment, the emotions of different motivational motivations were induced by the evaluation of the picture materials before, then completed the Stroop cognitive inhibition task, and investigated the effects of different avoidance motivational intensity on cognitive inhibition. In the second experiment, useing ERPs technology to investigate the time course of the neural mechanisms of avoidance mitivational emotion influencing the cognitive inhibition. The specific experimental process is the same as the first experiment. The emotions of different motivational motivations were induced by the evaluation of the picture materials before, then completed the Stroop cognitive inhibition task, and investigated the time course of the neural mechanisms of avoidance mitivational emotion influencing the cognitive inhibition.According to the results of two experiments,we found:(1)Compared with neutral emotions, negative emotions of high avoidance motivation induced significantly longer responses to tasks.(2)The early stages of processing: compared with neutral conditions, the subjects in the negative emotion induced by high avoidance motivation intensity under the N1 amplitude is negative, the latency of N1 is relatively longer;high and low avoidance motivation negative emotions under the condition of P2 amplitude significantly less than neutral conditions,P2 latency was significantly shorter than neutral condition under the condition of low avoidance motivation.Cognitive conflict awareness stage: compared with neutral conditions, the N2 component amplitude induced by high and low avoidance motivation intensity is significantly larger, and N2 latency is significantly longer under high avoidance motivation intensity.According to the experimental results of experiment one and experiment two,the following conclusions are drawn:(1)From the results of behavioral responses, individual cognitive inhibition was affected by negative emotions with different strengths of avoidance motivation.negative emotions of high avoidance motivation hindered cognitive inhibition function.negative emotions of low avoidance motivation had no significant effect on cognitive inhibition.(2)From the results of ERPs,it is concluded that the effect of negative emotions with high and low avoidance motivation on cognition suppression is similar in time course.Regardless of the negative emotional condition of the low avoidance motivation,or the negative emotional condition of the high avoidance motivation, both the early processing stage and the cognitive conflict stage hinder the individual’s cognitive inhibition. |
