| With the continuous promotion of the "going out" of Chinese culture and the frequent appearances of Chinese writers on the podiums of the world literary world,Chinese literature has aroused widespread interest. And since Cao Wenxuan won the Hans Christian Andersen Award in 2016,Chinese children’s literature(ChL)has gradually gained the attention of the mainstream news and the press of the world ChL circle. However, compared with adult ’s literature(AdL),the out-going translation study of Chinese ChL is still in the margin of academic circles.Based on eco-translatology and set in the ecological status quo of the out-going translation of Chinese ChL,this thesis excavates the meaning of "being survivable and effective" in eco-translatology and leads to the discussion of relationships between the writer and the translator, the writer and the translation, the writer and the target reader, etc. The conclusion is drawn that, with the background of the export of Chinese culture, the essence of the out-going English translation of Chinese literature is that the Chinese writers seek for ecological expansion of their texts,by which the diagram of eco-translational cycle is creatively constructed, forming a cycle from the original author to the translator, from the translator to the reader and finally from the reader back to the author.By combining with the status quo of the eco-translation of Bronze and Sunflower, the English version of Cao’s master work Qingtong Kuihua, and referring to some achievements made in out-going translation studies of AdL in China, this thesis further reveals the influence of typical elements(writer, original, translator, translator, etc.)and atypical elements(literary agents, publishers, countries, etc.)in the cycle diagram on the out-going translation of Chinese ChL,and suggests corresponding strategies. In addition, this thesis adopts a combination of qualitative and quantitative research:the former manifests itself in the interpretation and innovative use of the theories related to eco-translatology.The latter is reflected in the use of a large amount of online and offline data to interpret and demonstrate the ecological status quo of the out-going translation of Chinese ChL,as well as of Bronze and Sunflower, which is an example of the highest level of Chinese ChL.It is worth mentioning that this thesis departs from the set pattern of past research of ChL translation, which is limited to the textual factors. It extends the argumentation to cover factors both inside and outside the text by using the characteristics of eco-translatology,which holds a holistic and correlative view, especially highlighting the unique elements of ChL translation such as:Translators should have the ability to convey the childish delight and innocence;illustration should not be ignored;and special requirements are demanded for double readers. So this thesis is a more systematic and comprehensive exploration of the out-going translation of Chinese ChL. |
