Based on all the Dou-shaped food vessels unearthed from the archaeological sites and tombs distributing in the northwest Hubei Province and the southwest Henan Province along the Middle reaches of the Han River,this paper focuses on the evolution sequence of Dou-shaped food vessels' shapes and the comparisons of its evolvement,in order to discuss the variations and implications of the Dou-shaped food vessels effected by regional cultural exchanges in Zhou Dynasty.From May to November in 2016,a large number of Dou-shaped food vessels were unearthed during the excavation of Shangzhai Ruins in Laohekou City,Hubei Province,when they had been found in the site.During the later filing stage,a large amount of documents and data were reviewed and it was discovered that there is no complete sequence of Dou-shaped food vessels in this area.To clarify this problem,documents and data of the unearthed Dou-shaped food vessels were tracked down broadened to the northwest of Hubei and the southwest of Henan,namely,the Middle reaches of the Han River.By means of stratigraphy and typology,referring to Research on Yan-Shaped Pottery Steamers and Haochuan Necropolis Pottery Beans' Modeling,Decoration and Style Characteristics,the author did some works of classification and staging in this two regions,and summarized the evolution sequence of Dou-shaped food vessels in Zhou Dynasty.In the Middle reaches of the Han River,there was once a kingdom of Zeng,which was later extinguished by the kingdom of Chu.The Chu culture has a deeper influence,and being a typical artifact,Dou-shaped food vessels would also be affected,for example,more obvious distinct regional feature of the shape of Dou-shaped food vessels were unearthed in the northwest region of Hubei during the Double Zhou period.As time goes by,the plain bean sprouts have become more common,and they have developed into cover-up Dou-shaped food vessels.Through the collation,classification,and staging of Dou-shaped food vessels unearthed in the Middle reaches of the Han River,the author establishes a system conforming to the times to makes the time of Dou-shaped food vessels clearer.Based on existing archaeological file and data,this paper by classifying and staging the evolution sequence of Dou-shaped food vessels in the Middle reaches ofthe Han River,and discussing from the perspective of archeology the influence of cultural factors on excavated Dou-shaped food vessels,to enable readers to have a deeper knowledge of the changes of Dou-shaped food vessels in the Middle reaches of the Han River in Zhou Dynasty and its influencing factors.
