Jack London's works are rich in subject matter,among which the description of exotic images is also involved.He constructed different Chinese images in such short stories as “White and Yellow”,“Yellow Handkerchief”,“The Unparalleled Invasion”,“Chinago”,“Chun Ah Chun” and “The Tears of Ah Kim”.Generally speaking,Chinese images constructed by him vary from negative ones to objective ones.It is of great importance to observe how he constructed the Chinese images and evaluate its significance in intercultural communication from the perspectives of Imagologie and Post-colonialism.This thesis is composed of five chapters.Chapter One introduces London's writing about China,previous researches about the topic,theories used in this thesis as well as the purpose and significance of the research.Chapter Two is aimed at analyzing different Chinese images in Jack London's six short stories.Chapter Three elaborates the major factors that influenced London's construction of Chinese images.Chapter Four examines London's probe into intercultural communication.Chapter Five ends up with the conclusion of the whole thesis and emphasis on the significance of London's construction of Chinese images in his short stories.This thesis,by researching the factors that influenced London's construction of Chinese images in his six short stories,reveals the reason why London created such images and illustrates the significance of the variation of the Chinese images in these short stories in intercultural communication.As a miniature of intercultural communication at that period,London's construction of Chinese images in his works played a key role in the communication between the two cultures.
