Music criticism is an important part of music activities.Compared with the relatively mature Western music criticism theory and practice,due to the late start,the incomplete system,and the historical reasons such as frequent political movements in the early years of the founding of the People’s Republic of China,the development of music criticism in New China was once lagging behind.After decades of rapid development,the music life of the people in China has been greatly enriched.The content,form,and carrier of music criticism have undergone profound changes.Music criticism has also developed steadily as an independent discipline.However,in the large number of studies on contemporary Chinese music criticism,it is still relatively rare to sort out the academic achievements of the development of music criticism from specific samples.This thesis proposes to use the Shanghai Spring International Music Festival(hereinafter referred to as “Shanghai Spring”)as a concrete sample to research and analyse the relevant critical articles in certain historical period.As the oldest and still-organized music festival in New China,the “Shanghai Spring”,which was first created in 1960,is the true miniature and vivid witness of the development of Chinese music theory and practice.According to incomplete statistics,over the past several years,there have thousands of criticism articles and reports on “Shanghai Spring”.To a certain extent,these articles and reports present the overall appearance of music development in China at a specific historical stage,and reflect the clear track of the development of musical criticism in China.According to the corresponding historical and cultural backgrounds,this thesis plans to divide the history of “Shanghai Spring” into four periods: "Start-up","new period," "post-new period" and "new century".In order to seek the current status and trends of the development of Chinese music criticism,the study will review the music criticism of “Shanghai Spring”,summarize the characteristics and hot issues of each period,dig into the historical and cultural factors.It is hoped that the study of this topic will improve the the academic level of the “Shanghai Spring”,further triggering the thinking and prospects for its development,and at the same time providing a typical sample of Chinese music criticism study.
