In recent years,English grammar teaching has aroused a heated discussion among scholars.If junior high school students lack passion or a concrete foundation in English grammar,their grammar learning in senior high school will be hindered.The Compulsory Education English Curriculum Standard(2011 Edition)emphasizes that a change is necessary,which transforms from merely learning vocabulary and grammar to one that cultivates students' comprehension of English in a pragmatic way.This change indicates that the implementation of the curriculum reform will be problematic.This study aims to analyze the current situation of English grammar teaching in Haikou city,find the problems and offer some effective suggestions.Teachers and students from three junior high schools have been chosen as the objects of the investigation.The research methods include literature review,questionnaire analyze,interview and classroom observation.The investigation shows an awareness of the importance of grammar education in both students and teachers in Haikou.However,the current situation isn't optimistic.As a response to the current predicament,the author puts forward suggestions for teachers and students,based on the theories of the second language acquisition and the social constructivism.First of all,teachers should set up a correct view of grammar and grammar teaching.Secondly,teachers need to improve their professional literacy and language skills.Thirdly,given the current status of grammar teaching,the educational department should guide to publish some teaching materials with practical and systematic grammar knowledge.Finally,teachers should classify and summarize grammar knowledge in time,and cultivate students' skills of the induction.
