The Study Of The Outsider Images In Ge Fei’s Novels

This thesis takes the novels of Ge Fei as the research object.By sorting out and analyzing the characteristics and motivation of the image of the outsider in the novel,this thesis discusses the unique value of the outsiders in the novel and its influence on the writing and acceptance of the literary world at present.The main contents of this thesis are divided into three parts:The first part is to sort out and analyze the types and characteristics of the outsiders in Ge Fei’s novels,and divide them into three categories:the first is the numb adherents,who do not have self-consciousness and only cater to the reality for the sake of survival and their desire;the second is the wanderers with identity anxiety,who hesitate between the catering and the resistance to the real world,thus creating the spiritual division and the confusion of emotions;the third is the defenders of self-consciousness,who show the characteristics of adhering to the inner world and taking active actions.The second part analyzes the motivation why Ge Fei created the images of outsiders and argues that there are three aspects of reasons of the appearance of large numbers of outsiders in Ge Fei’s novels.Firstly,Ge Fei’s writing psychology is the main reason of this feature for Ge Fei has a self-closed personality,which affects the formation of the characteristic of the outsider in his novel.Because of his self-closing,he transferred his desire to communicate with reality to writing.Secondly,from the writer’s life experience,Ge Fei has a life experience from the countryside to the city,which influences the writing of characters.Finally,the writer’s interest in reading and the atmosphere of literature also influence the formation of his outsider images.The third part discusses the position and the significance of the outsider images in Ge Fei’s novels in the history of literature.Firstly,the shaping of the outsider images in his novels is the practice of his new historicism,which can refine our cognition of history.And then Ge Fei also has unique views on the realistic situation and mental state of the outsiders.In his novels,Ge Fei shows the irresistible fate and the realistic predicament from the outsiders,and the spiritual conflict between rationality and irrationality,which seems to be dark but implies positive meaning.At the end,the outsider images in Ge Fei’s novels strengthens the depth of the outsider images in the present literary world,and also provides a way of self-redemption for the people in trouble,namely redeeming oneself through art,thus having the dual significance of literature and reality.
