A Project Report On 2017 "China Science And Technology Forum"

With the advance of globalization and the rapid development of science and technology,Sci-tech academic conferences have increasingly become an important means for experts and scholars to exchange ideas on scientific and technological development and achievements.As experts and scholars from all walks of life at home and abroad attend various kinds of academic conferences,intercultural communication has become more and more frequent,resulting in the indispensability of conference interpreting.This report analyzes the difficulties and challenges that the author encountered as an interpreter in"China Science and Technology Forum" and provides corresponding solutions.The major difficulties include misunderstanding of speakers’ words due to the interpreter’s limited knowledge about technical terms in science and technology,lack of concentration and complexity of the conferences that negatively affect the quality of interpreting.Based on the Interpretive Theory and the audio-recording transcripts of the project,the following solutions were proposed:adequate preparations before interpreting,especially for technical terms,enhancing the quality of interpreting through cultivating the habit of thinking in English,adopting appropriate interpreting strategies,and strengthening interpreting ability through listening and note-taking training.It is hoped that the solutions proposed in this report can provide reference for interpreters in science and technology.
