Comparison Of The Usage Of Onomatopoeia In Chinese And Thai

This thesis mainly discusses the similarities and differences of onomatopoeia words in Chinese and Thai,and compares them from four aspects:syllable structure,grammatical function,semantic category and the application of onomatopoeia words.Firstly,the syllable structure of Chinese and Thai onomatopoeia is compared and analyzed.It can be found that there are A AA AB AAB ABAB onomatopoeia in both Chinese and Thai.However,there are still many differences between the two languages in other structures,especially the characteristics of the Thai reduplication methods and the Chinese four-syllable structure,some of which have fixed elements."(Miles)In addition,there is a phenomenon of the same meaning and different syllable structures in Thai.Secondly,this paper analyzes the grammatical functions of Chinese and Thai onomatopoeia words.Through comparative analysis,it can be found that there is no significant difference in grammatical functions between onomatopoeia and onomatopoeia in the two languages.The main differences are:Chinese and Thai onomatopoeia words have different positions when they are attributives and adverbials,and when Chinese onomatopoeias act as independent words,commas must be added between sentences and independent words,but in Thai,only one empty case means that it is outside the structure of the sentence.Thirdly,this paper classifies Chinese and Thai onomatopoeia words according to the different simulated objects,which can be divided into four categories:human onomatopoeia,animal onomatopoeia,natural phenomenon onomatopoeia and object onomatopoeia.Words can not be found the similar meaning in two different languages:Chinese and Thai.It is also found that in Chinese and Thai onomatopoeia,a onomatopoeia may have several meanings,and the sound of an object may also be expressed by several onomatopoeia words.Finally,this paper analyzes the application of onomatopoeia in Chinese and Thai.Through comparative analysis,we can find that Chinese and Thai onomatopoeia words are very useful widely in the their lives.Onomatopoeia can be used not only in face-to-face communication,but also in some other situations.In this paper,Chinese and Thai onomatopoeia words in modern language environment are divided into three categories:Onomatopoeia in literary works,onomatopoeia in children's language,and onomatopoeia in network language.Therefore,the scope of application of onomatopoeia is particularly wide and should attract people's attention.
