Zhu Xi's “The Collected Commentaries of Mencius” is a representative work of his construction of Neo-Confucianism through classical interpretation. The rejuvenation of Confucianism from the Middle Tang Dynasty to Song Dynasty and the Mencius Promotion Movement were the most profound social and cultural backgrounds resulting in “The Collected Commentaries of Mencius”.Zhu Xi's consciousness of the times, cultural inheritance, and subjective efforts were also the key conditions of the creating of “The Collected Commentaries of Mencius” in which Zhu Xi comprehensively expounded his philosophic thoughts. In the LiQi Theory,Zhu Xi used the concepts of “Li” “Dao” and“Tian” to construct his Neo-Confucianism ontology from all four aspects, which related to heavenly principle, physical, ethics, and human nature; The interpretation of “natural compassion” and “erudition and details speaking” expounds the idea of “unity in diversity”;and uses the interpretation of the theory of “noble spirit”,Mencius' discussion of “nature”and “fate” to elucidate the idea of “the relation between Li and Qi”.In his Theory of the Mind,Zhu Xi used Mencius' theory of “the good of human nature” to discuss human nature under the framework of the theory of “the relation between Li and Qi”,and made a distinction between “nature of nature” and “nature of temperament” in terms of “nature”;Zhu Xi redefined the concept of “benevolence, righteousness, rites and wisdom” from the nature of the nature, and established the highest position of “benevolence” in the four concepts.Related to this,Zhu Xi revealed the relationship between nature “mind” and“emotions”,and improved Zhang Zai's theory of the “mind combines nature with emotion”.On the text of “Mencius”,Zhu Xi expounds the mind philosophy from the development of mind, and explains detailedly on the idea of “having failed” using the theories“four-pointed heart”“the innocent heart of a child”,and “theory of original goodness of human nature”.In the Debate on Knowing and Doing,Zhu Xi distinguished the nature and stage of cognition, discussed the relationship between knowledge and practice, and discussed the core concepts of the epistemology about “knowledge coming from the study of the physical world”;In the process of understanding things,Zhu Xi emphasizes theimportance of self-cultivation.Zhu Xi interpreted Mencius' s “intention” into “Greetings”and summarizes the principle of respect from the three aspects related “reviewing this heart” “reflection of one's heart” “mindlessness and nourishing mind”.On the basis of both of the above,On the values of Zhu Xi's Neo-Confucianism,he proposed the idea of“heavenly principle with selfish desire ” and finally advocated the view of “suppression of human desires” “Save the heavens”.It had provided fundamental basis for people's behavior in the real society.“The Collected Commentaries of Mencius” filled with abundant Neo-Confucianism thoughts, which is not only the great achievement of Zhu Xi's interpretation of “Mencius”,but also one of the most important documents reflection of Zhu Xi's Confucianism. It had an important influence on both the history of Confucianism and the history of “the Mencius” study. The Neo-Confucianism is not only the work that comprehensively expounded the profound connotations of various parts of Zhu Xi's Neo-Confucianism,but also constructed the logical framework of his Neo-Confucianism,which clearly presenting the thoughts of Zhu Xi's Neo-Confucianism;After Zhu Xi,Zhu Xi's students and some of The Four Books were praised for “The Collected Commentaries of Mencius” by advocating Zhu Xi's Neo-Confucianism.Chen Chun and Jin Lvxiang were the representatives. After the Middle Ming Dynasty, some scholars used the criticism of“The Collected Commentaries of Mencius” to oppose Zhu Xi's Neo-Confucianism and then constructed their own ideology.“The Collection of Mencius” played an important role in the construction of Zhu Xi's Neo-Confucianism.The debate on his Neo-Confucianism is the only way to promote the development of Confucianism and Mencius Hermeneutics.
