| With the issue of The Core Competences for Chinese students’ development,the newly-released English Curricula Standards involves language ability,cultural awareness,thinking traits and learning ability as its components.As an important means of assessment,Cloze is playing an indispensable part in cultivating the students’core competences,because it is a combination of language comprehension and the application of its knowledge and skills,functioning as a useful tool for their development in terms of critical thinking.But in reality,for lack of discourse awareness,and concentration too much on details,students have great trouble in doing it,only to find many mistakes after checking the answers.Finally,students gradually lose faith in this test pattern.This research based on discourse analysis aims to enable students to deepen their understanding of the form pattern and content pattern in different discourse modes.With enough practice,students can accumulate their experience and develop their own way of think in terms of discourse.Furthermore,this research focuses on enhancing teachers’discourse decoding ability,the teaching ability about paper analysis in class,in other words,teachers’ teaching and students’ learning abilities.To be specific,how can the teachers group the discourse skills concerning Cloze test,and try to guide the students to take in it?By what means in teaching can teachers improve students’ ability while doing Cloze test exercises?This research has been conducted within 4 months among two classes in Senior Three of one four-star high school in JiangSu Province.The introduction of discourse knowledge,including coherence and conjunction,as well as the specific realization of these skills has been fully demonstrated to students.The researchers collect data before and after the whole process by means of conducting surveys,comparing the students’ scores,and personal interviews.The results of the research are as follows:(1)Based on the exercises on Cloze,the teachers can gradually illustrate the strategies about discourse analysis,which can relieve students’ fear of doing Cloze test,enable students to be sensitive to each skill that can be applied flexibly.(2)Teachers can put emphasis on students’ self-development,who can purposely select typical exercises to nurture students in learning-comprehension-absorption-practice-reflection circle.In such a way,students can better themselves in Cloze test aspect,and finally ungrade their thinking traits.In conclusion,the discourse analysis research applied in Cloze test can benefit the teachers and students on discourse characteristics,help them gain a sense of achievement. |
