According to English Curriculum Standard of General High School(2017)(hereinafter refers to as Curriculum Standards)emphasizes that English curriculum content should be placed in the first place to develop students’ English discipline core quality.As one of the elements of curriculum content,language knowledge is particularly important,involving pronunciation,grammar,vocabulary,discourse and pragmatic knowledge.As an important medium in foreign language learning,discourse enables students to touch,understand,learn and use the language in a real and relatively complete environment.Therefore,language learning must take discourse as a unit.But in the author’s teaching practice for more than three years,the author found that many teachers often ran counter to the requirements of “Curriculum Standards” in class.Teachers still focused on the explanation of words and grammar.If it goes on for a long time,students will lack discourse awareness when reading articles,which will directly affect their score rate of cloze.As an important item in the college entrance exam,cloze test not only examines meaning discrimination and specific usage of words,collocation,and grammar,but also examines students’ overall grasp of the article in combination with the context.Therefore,the score of cloze test can reflect the level of students’ language application ability to a certain extent.However,in the actual teaching process,the author found that although she has commented on countless clozes and introduced a lot of skills,there was still little effect,and the score rate of this question was the lowest.Students also generally reflected that even though they had memorized a large number of words and understood the text,they still felt lost when choosing the answers.When reflecting on the past three years of teaching,the author thinks that the fundamental reason of the low scoring rate first lies in the failure of forming discourse analysis.When doing questions,students can not understand the article from a macroscopic perspective,so it’s impossible to choose the right option with the help of context,lexical cohesion and other means,and the low scoring rate is no surprise.Therefore,in order to help students establish discourse awareness,improve the students’ problem-solving ability,and reduce the error rate of the problem,this article,titled “The Effect of Discourse Analysis on Improving High School”,studies the necessity and importance of discourse analysis in cloze preparation of college entrance examination by using questionnaire survey method,experimental method and interview method.This study took two key classes of Grade One in Luliang No.1Middle School as the research objects and carried out a 16-week teaching experiment.Finally,on the basis of analyzing the experimental data,combining the results of questionnaire and interview,it is concluded that setting up students’ discourse awareness is vital for improving students’ cloze scores.
