With China’s accession to the WTO and the “One Belt and One Road” initiative in recent years, more and more Chinese companies have joined overseas construction projects, especially in some countries in the Middle East and Africa. As a result, the translation demands for bid and tender documents have skyrocketed, and the requirements for the quality of translation have increased a lot too.The report is based on the English-Chinese translation of the tender document for Prestea-Kumasi Power Enhancement Project in Ghana. The tender document is composed of five sections and the translator is mainly responsible for the last section Appendices, which involves the general description of subcontract price and schedule of quantities, prices and breakdown of subcontract price(BOQ).The practical report first briefly introduces the source text and translation procedure, then explains Nida’s functional equivalence theory.Under the guidance of this theory, the translator summarizes the key and difficult points encountered in translation, and puts forward the appropriate translation methods or techniques. She focuses on the translation of terminologies in tender documents and civil engineering. In order to achieve the equivalence of functions in the vocabulary, the translator mainly adopts the literal translation method. At the same time, the translator uses translation techniques such as linear translation, amplification, division and conversion to translate complex sentences so that accurate and the rigor of the tender documents can be achieved.Through this practice of translating, the translator not only gets a preliminary understanding of civil engineering and tender translation, but also accumulates valuable experience for future translation work.
