Stray Birds plays an important role in the field of literature in China, even in the world literature. Therefore, its translations have also received great attention.Feng Tang's translation of Stray Birds has caused widespread and polarized discussions in all circles of the society, including criticisms and queries, and also some readers' support and affection.Due to the unconventionality of the version, many translation researchers start discussing that version from the perspective of translation theories. However, translation is a kind of language art.Few scholars pay attention to the linguistic phenomena that exist in Feng's version, such as prosody, syntax, etc. In view of this, collecting de-constructions in Feng Tang's and Zheng Zhenduo's versions, this thesis compares the differences of the utilization of de-constructions regarding the prosodic-syntactic interface,in order to fully interpret the differences of their prosodic and syntactic structures, and to find specific features of the versions which are produced in different periods,to study the relationship between translation and Chinese in the process of development, and to discuss the necessity and inevitable tendency of literature re-translation.After the contrast of prosodic and syntactic structures of de-constructions,the present study yields the following key findings.First,on prosody,Feng is oriented to use the standard feet of disyllabic units, while,in the Zheng's translation, there is the fusion of miscellaneous prosodic structures, such as the degenerative feet of monosyllabic units, the standard feet of disyllabic units and the super feet of trisyllabicunits, which lead to the prosody in Zheng's version slower and looser.Second,on account of the enormous influences of the prosody on syntactic structures, the complexity of prosody inevitably leads to complex syntactic structures. In Zheng'sversion, the fusion of prosodic structures unquestionably makes the syntactic relationships between feet complicated.Third, the changes of prosodic and syntactic structures in the two versions are closely related to the time background when the translations were produced.Zheng's translation is biased toward using Europeanized Chinese, while the Feng's translation is more likely to use the "De-europeanized" language.Fourth,on the basis of the differences of language expressions in the two versions, the re-translation of Stray Birds is an inexorable trend. This paper provides a new idea for the comparative study of Stray Birds' versions, and also puts forward a new perspective on the research of influences of translations on language development based on the diachronic studies, which is conductive to researchers in this field.
