| As early as the non-verbal stage, humans have learned to express their inner feelings and needs through expressions.Emotions play an important role in conveying the emotional state of an individual and in perceiving the intentions of others.Studies have shown that facial expression recognition is influenced by the field cognitive style, but the conclusion is not uniform.Field cognitive style is the information organization and processing method that individuals are used to when they perform cognitive tasks such as reasoning and judgment.Field-independent individuals tend to analyze processing, and field-dependent individuals pay more attention to overall processing.According to the configuration theory, facial expressions are processed as a whole..The feature theory thinks that facial expression recognition mainly depends on the features of faces. This study explores the impact of cognitive styles on six basic expressions of recognition: happiness, disgust, anger, fear, surprise, and sadness, and make some explanation from the perspective of cognitive-cultural model of emotions.Experiment 1 uses static facial expressions as experimental materials and uses the basic expression judgment paradigm to examine the influence of field cognitive styles on static facial expression recognition.Considering that facial movements have an effect on facial expression recognition,Experiment 2 further uses dynamic facial expression materials to observe the effects of cognitive styles on dynamic facial expression recognition.Experiment 3 starts from the cognitive-culture model theory of emotions and uses the semantic difference scale and implicit association test to explore the relationship between family environmental factors and facial expression recognition ability. The results showed that:(1)The cognitive style of the field did not affect the scores on the static facial expressions of the subjects. In the recognition accuracy andresponse and the expression strength scores, the expression patterns of the six basicfacial expressions were significantly different.(2)The cognitive style of the field influences the recognition performance of the participants in the dynamic expression. It shows that in addition to the sad expression, the recognition response of the five independent expressions to the five basic expressions is significantly less than the field-dependent individual. It shows that the advantages of field-independent individuals in dynamic facial expression recognition are more obvious. It is indirectly proved that the feature theory may be superior to the configuration theory.(3)Among the family environment factors, there is a correlation between the individual’s preference for parental mothers’ communicative features and qualities and the ability of facial expression recognition. |
