In recent years, with the increasingly rising international status and exchanges of China, the demands for Chinese language teaching and learning in countries around the world have also increased dramatically. Therefore,Chinese government began exploring the establishment of a non-profit education institution ?Confucius Institute? overseas since the year of 2004 to promote Chinese culture.A considerable deal of Chinese culture-bound news is translated and published on media. The author took part in the translation project of Hanban news in XISU.During the process, the author found that the translation of metaphors in the news has posed to be a great challenge for translators. The three main difficulties of metaphor translation are metaphor identification, metaphor understanding and metaphor transformation. In view of this, the author starts with the three main metaphor translation difficulties, establishes a corpus based on the author's translation practice in the Hanban News Translation Project, and then introduces a method of MIPVU assisted with HyConc as the metaphor identification method to effectively and comprehensively identify metaphors in the established corpus. Then, the previously-identified metaphors are classified into a few categories based on their metaphorical images in source domain. In succession,a thorough and comprehensive characteristic analysis of these metaphors is conducted and the result demonstrates that these metaphors are of cultural-uniqueness and of communicative and political essence. Finally, the author introduces the perspective of semiotics to expound on the generation, understanding and transformation of the metaphor from its signifier and signified.Ultimately, the author proposes three feasible translation techniques, namely, preserving metaphorical image, preserving metaphorical image plus annotation and transforming metaphorical image,in pursuit of providing some reference for translators in related translation practice to some extent.
