A Report On English Translation Of A Complete Biography Of Dai Xiaoqiao:(Excerpts)

This report is based on the English translation of the first twelve stories of A Complete Biography of Dai Xiaoqiao,which is written by Mei Zihan.The original text is a children’s literary work,whose main readership is children.As a special group,children have completely different requirements for the translation of literature.Therefore,in addition to fully understanding the characteristics and translation standards of children’s literature,translators should also follow some translation theories,adopt appropriate strategies and methods to solve problems in translation practice,and make the translation conform to language features and expressions of children.Reception aesthetics theory has shifted its focus from authors and texts to readers,it has been widely used in translation,meanwhile,the principle of the children’s subjective has long been recognized in the field of children’s literature research.Therefore,under the guidance of the reception aesthetics theory,the author tries to translate children’s literary works by combining the above two concepts and prove the applicability of reception aesthetics theory in children’s literature translation.This report starts from the three concepts of the reception aesthetics theory,namely “the centric status of the reader ”,“horizon of expectation” and “appealing structure”,based on the studies of Chinese cultural expressions and the characteristics of Western children readers,it adopts case analysis method to specifically explores the strategies used in the translation of A Complete Biography of Dai Xiaoqiao at the lexical level,syntactic level and textual level,so as to provide reference for the follow-up researchers.This report consists of five chapters.Chapter One is Introduction,this part covers the source and significance of the project.Chapter Two is Preparation for the translation,this part includes author introduction,textual language features analysis,literature review and translation tools.Chapter Three is Theoretical Framework of the Reception Aesthetics Theory,this part introduces the overview and the main contents of the reception aesthetics theory.Chapter Four is Case Analysis.As the main part of the report,under the guidance of the reception aesthetics theory,it discusses the specific translation strategies methods at the above three levels.Chapter Five is the Conclusion,which includes Major findings and Limitations.
