The Research About Geographical Names Of Nanchong

Geographical names are the product of language and history,or are highly integrated cultural phenomena involving geography,society,culture,ethnicity,etc.,and have important practical value and research significance.The earliest records of China's geographical names can be traced back to the pre-Qin period,after which there are successive studies on geographical names.The study of ancient geographical names is mainly about the origins and history of geographical names.With the establishment of modern toponymics and the introduction of advanced western theories and research methods,the study of Chinese geographical names has become increasingly mature and systematic.Nanchong is a famous historical and cultural city.The Nanchong place names have a long history and rich culture,but they are not paid much attention.In order to make up for the lack of Nanchong's place name research,this paper selected 5654 places in Nanchong,Sichuan Province.The object of study,combined with the knowledge of multiple disciplines,conducted a comprehensive analysis of the structural features,naming methods,evolution and cultural background of Nanchong geographical names.The main body of this paper is divided into four parts.The first part discusses the structural types of Nanchong place names,and analyzes the Nanchong place names from two aspects: syllable structure and word structure.From the perspective of syllable structure,Nanchong place names mainly consist of three syllable structures,three syllable structures,and very few four-syllable structures.The two-syllable structures are mostly city,county,township,and town names,with a focus on simplicity and standardization;Most of the disyllabic structures are village names,which are more popular and more commonly used.From the standpoint of word structure,this article cites the concept of "L-Struct" proposed by American scholars Hirschman and L.& N.Chinchor in 1997.The composition of geographical names consists of differentiating morphemes,positionalmorphemes,descriptive morphemes,type morphemes,part morphemes,and positional morphemes.All morphemes cannot be repeated.A place name consists of one place name component or multiple place name components.According to this principle,this paper divides the structural form of Nanchong geographical names into simple place names and compound place names.A simple place name consists of one place name component,and a composite place name consists of two or more place name components.The simple name is the main structural form of Nanchong place names.The most typical structural model is“description of morphemes + type morphemes”.This is the place name structure model that is now recognized by the academic community,namely,"professional name + generic name";The second part discusses the naming types of Nanchong place names,and classifies the naming types of Nanchong into three categories: natural place names,humane place names,and canned place names.In addition,three special types of place names,derived place names and immigration place names are also discussed.Through naming and analyzing the naming and naming arguments of Nanchong,the naming psychology and nomenclature of people are explored.The third part discusses the evolution of Nanchong place names.Although the geographical names have strong stability after they are produced,the stability is relative.Place names also change because of internal or external factors.Internal factors such as changes in the language's internal sounds and words,external factors such as historical changes,dynasty replacements,political interference,etc.,may all lead to changes in place names.Therefore,this chapter discusses the evolution of Nanchong geographical names from the three aspects of pronunciation,text,and word meaning.This evolution is both horizontal and vertical.The last part discusses Nanchong place names and culture.Nanchong has a long history and profound cultural heritage.Behind a Nanchong place name may have a profound cultural connotation.This article starts from five aspects such as dialect,geography,history,politics,and social psychology,and reveals the close relationship between place names and culture.Nanchong culture is the basis for the naming of Nanchong names,geographical names of Nanchong also reflect the rich and colorful Nanchong?s culture.
