With the fast development of Chinese economy and the establishment of Confucius Institutes all over the world,more and more international students have been attracted by the oriental culture thus came to China to study Chinese.As the listening competency will severely affect the result of Chinese language learning,it is very important to research on the strategies to enhance students' listening effectiveness.This study employed the questionnaire survey method and investigated sixty international students in Hebei University and Hebei Normal University in September 2017 about their use of listening strategies and the relationship between listening strategies and students' Individual differences(native language,gender,age,Chinese language proficiency and motivation).The results showed that:(1)Students used all kinds of listening strategies at a high frequency level and they used metacognitive strategies.(2)There was significant correlation among all six listening strategies.(3)Individual differences affected the frequency of students' listening strategy use.(4)Students' native language affected their selection of listening strategies.(5)Female students used listening strategies more frequently than male students.(6)There was positive relationship between students' age and their use of memory strategies,cognitive strategies,and metacognitive strategies.(7)The intermediate students used all types of listening strategies more frequently than the advanced students.(8)Students with instrumental motivation used all kinds of the listening strategies more frequently than students with inclusive motivation.Based on the survey results,the researcher put forward some suggestions for teaching Chinese as a foreign language.
