As the way of cultivating students' English listening and speaking skills,there are many problems in primary English listening and speaking classes,which hinder the improvement of students' listening and speaking skills.Fortunately,researchers have found that multimedia instruction has a great effect on primary English listening and speaking classes.However,the empirical research about the effects of multimedia instruction in English listening and speaking classes of primary school are lacking.Therefore,the author made an empirical research about the effects of multimedia instruction in English listening and speaking classes of primary school to explore the potential effects of multimedia instruction in English listening and speaking classes and the reasons for its effects or limitations,so as to improve the effectiveness of using multimedia instruction in English listening and speaking classes and further improve students' English listening and speaking skills.This study took Xi'an High-Tech International School as an example,and 210 students and 23 teachers had been surveyed by using questionnaires,observations and interviews.The results shows that the multimedia instruction truly has a great effect in primary English listening and speaking classes,it can stimulate students' interest in learning,strengthen the interaction between teachers and students and between students themselves,improve the teaching efficiency and create a good teaching environment.However,it is difficult and time-consuming for teachers to make courseware and find resources,and teachers rely on multimedia instruction too much,which limits the effects of multimedia instruction.There are some reasons for the effects and limitations.Firstly,teachers and students have a good attitudes towardsusing multimedia instruction.Secondly,teachers have a good implementation of multimedia instruction.However,some teachers can not take students' needs into consideration and are not proficient enough in using multimedia instruction as well as can not have a good distribution of time,which cause the limited effects of multimedia instruction.Therefore,teachers should get more training of using multimedia instruction,strengthen their competence of cooperation and learning,enhance their awareness of collecting and sharing resources and improve their ability of distribution of time in using multimedia instruction.
