As a special style of exposition,popular science text has become the major concern for the students because of its professional vocabulary,complicated grammatical structure,and little relation between scientific content and students’ life.However,popular science texts account for a big part in the English textbooks of high school,and there must be a popular science text in the annual reading comprehension of the college entrance examination,which shows its importance.Regrettably,the domestic reading teaching researches on popular science text are limited.Although most English teachers abandon conventional teaching methods focusing on the basic language knowledge of words,grammar and language use,they are still unclear about text analysis.Therefore,the students know little about the special lexicogrammar,the text structure and the information structure of popular science text.Without instruction of proper reading strategies,the students find it hard to improve.There are many changes in the newly issued National English Curriculum Standard for General High Schools(2017),one of which is the content of the course.Two new parts of thematic context and text type have been added to the six elements of the course.It can be obviously seen that the teaching ideas based on text analysis were added.Therefore,combined with the features of popular science text,the researcher puts forward the viewpoints of applying text analysis to reading teaching of popular science text in the senior high school.Through theoretical analysis,questionnaires,sample,this thesis first introduces the features of popular science text.Then,it reviews the researches of text analysis abroad and at home.Next,it explains the understanding of text analysis reading teaching.Through questionnaire and test analysis,it is found that some English teachers lack the awareness or teaching strategies of text analysis,meanwhile,the students are not well instructed to use proper reading strategies.It is certain that this kind of teaching is hard to achieve the ideal objectives.For the above problems,considering the stylistic and linguistic features of popular science text,this thesis puts forward the suggestion of textual teaching,combining top-down and bottom-up teaching models in pre-reading,while-reading and post-reading.To be specific,schema theory is applied to the pre-reading activities;In the part of while-reading,the superstructure and macrostructure theories are used to get the surface semantic messages of the text,and then the intrinsic relationship among each message is analyzed by cohesion theory to help students understood the text completely.After the reading process is finished,it is necessary to appropriately supplement some texts with similar topic,which can further enrich the existing schema,and practice text analysis strategies so that the students can understand the topic more deeply.Finally,a reading passage from the English textbook of senior high school is selected to present the procedures of textual teaching.
