The Influence Of Senior High School English Teachers' Teaching Style On Student's Participation

Currently,in various English teaching competitions,students' participation is one of the standards to evaluate teachers' teaching performance.At present,studies have shown that the level of students' participation has a significant impact on the learning outcomes of students.At the same time,as a communicative language,English learning also relies on classroom activities organized by teachers.This paper takes high school English teachers and students as the research object,and takes four representative teaching styles which include Liberal,Judicial,Legislative and Local as the case study object,aiming to study the influencing factors of students' participation.Teaching style is considered to be one of the main factors which affect students' participation.The survey results show that:1.The teaching style of high school English teachers has an impact on students' participation in class.Firstly,classroom observation records show that the participation enthusiasm,the way of participation,the number of participants are different in the Verbal and Non-Verbal aspects of classroom participation because of the change of teaching styles.Secondly,the questionnaire survey data processed by SPSS shows that there is a correlation between student participation and teacher' teaching style,which is mainly reflected in the students' Cognitive participation and Emotional participation.2.The classroom participation of teachers with different teaching styles is different:(1)In terms of Behavioral participation,the classroom participation of Liberal teaching style teachers is better than other teaching styles.Teachers treat students equally.Teacher and students work together to make a participation rule which they all agree with.For students who do not participate,the teachers will remind and supervise them according to the participation rules.(2)In terms of Cognitive participation,the score of students from all teaching style teachers' classroom on the dependency degree(depending on teachers and classmates)is higher than the other aspects.The students' score of the Liberal teaching style teachers is the highest on deep processing strategy.Students from this teaching style teacher's classroom think more after class.(3)In terms of Emotional participation,the data was processed by SPSS23 and,it indicates that there is only a small gay between students' positive Emotional participation score and negative Emotional participation score,the students' positive Emotional participation scores of the Legislative,Judicial and Liberal teaching style are significantly higher than negative Emotional participation score.In terms of students' negative Emotional participation,only students from Legislative teaching style' classroom have more boredom feeling than anxiety,students from Liberal,Judicial,Local teaching style's classroom are more anxious than boredom.Students' anxiety is mainly connected with concerns about test scores.English homework is the main source of boredom.3.Teachers of different teaching styles can be aware of the importance of students' participation in the classroom,but the methods they use to promote students to participate in the classroom are different.Judicial teaching style teachers always engage students in the classroom by fully integrating into student life to get topics.The Liberal teaching style engages students in the classroom by developing rules of participation.Local teaching style teachers regard classroom participation as classroom instruction,and consider it to be one of the important parts of teaching process.At the same time,they supervise students to participate in the classroom through regularly patrolling classes.The Legislative style of teaching uses its own professional English knowledge to attract students to participate in classroom activities.
