Fanhua is a novel which collects Jin Yucheng’s personal memories and feelings.Instead of reliving his old days and experiences, however, the author intends to reflect and reconstruct the collective memory of a generation by writing about the history of Shanghai. In addition,he pays attention to the fading memories of Shanghai culture in the hope that they can be acknowledged and passed down.In this sense, the personal memories of the author is closely linked to the city of Shanghai. In his own singular way,Jin Yucheng preserved these memories of the city. The first chapter, from the perspective of individual memory, first analyzes from the time,Jin Yucheng infused his own individual memory into the novel, which influenced the growth track of individual characters in the novel and influenced their character. At the same time, the cause and effect clues are embedded in the narrative of the 1990 s.Then from the spatial level,Jin Yucheng not only adopts the “de-tag” thinking of the urban landscape, but also outlines the external features of the city by means of “point”,“line” and “face”,and also closely integrates people with their living space.Get up and go deep into the interior of the residential space to showcase Shanghai’s characteristics. Finally, the reappearance of Jin Yucheng’s emotional memory is discussed, and we can see the true meaning of "Fanhua" through the life of the characters in the novel.Chapter two, from the perspective of collective memory, analyses the writing of Shanghai’s history in Fanhua.Individual memory and collective memory are interacted and constructed.Jin Yucheng is bound to be regulated by both individual memory and collective memory in his literary creation. This is embodied in his handling of the relationship between "everyday" and "history".Fanhua constructs the daily life of Shanghai citizens in secular clothes, but buries historical clues in it.Through individualized interpretation,Jin Yucheng not only deals with the relationship between "everyday" and "history".It is reflective and reconstructs the collective memory. In addition, there is a trace of Jin Yucheng’s family memory in Fanhua, which makes an exchange between the individual and his parents. In addition, the writing of traumatic memory about the Cultural Revolution in Fanhua deserves attention. He used flashlight memory to reconstruct the common memory of people in that era,and made efforts to promote the reflection of the Cultural Revolution to the level of consciousness.Chapter three, from the perspective of cultural memory, presents the attention of Fanhua to Shanghai culture.Shanghai is a city of great richness. It stores a lot of cultural memory which is worth excavating.Nowadays, facing the impact of globalization,it needs cultural memory to maintain a sense of identity of the city.Fanhua takes care of and records urban culture from three aspects.Firstly, facing the problem that "Shanghai dialect" needs to be inherited,Fanhua has established a new form of writing in Shanghai.Secondly,Fanhua activates and stores the memories of the old streets and buildings, and has a positive impact on urban construction.Thirdly, through the description of Shanghai’s folk culture,Fanhua also takes samples for the life style of the citizens. The fourth chapter is to discuss the storage characteristics of memorized text.Firstly, the application of repetitive elements is reflected in the repeated presentation of "film" and the frequent display of "meal".Secondly, the author adopts a jumping narrative structure, which allows the free transformation of narrative time and space, and contrasts the present with memory.Thirdly,Jin Yucheng keeps a large amount of historical materials of life in Shanghai because he tries his best to show the historical and life aspects.Fourthly,Jin Yucheng also makes the novel implement in very specific details by setting up the extreme description and illustrations of "things" so that the memory "returns to the soul".
