According to the current education situation in our country,the classes in senior high school are relatively big,so English teachers tend to play a dominating role in English class in order to finish the prescribed teaching tasks.Owing to teacher-directed teaching style,the principal status of the students is ignored.Consequently,students tend to lose interest in English writing,which results in their poor ability in English writuing.To solve this problem,this paper adopted the theory of Learning Community in writing class.While reading pertinent literature,the author found that most of the research focused on English writing class in senior high school was on the theoretical level and that not enough studies have been made on empirical cases.Therefore,based on the theory of Learning Community,the author tried to make an English writing experiment in Fuzhou Overseas Chinese Middle School to verify whether the application of the theory of Learning Community is effective in English writing class in senior high school.The writing experiment was conducted in two parallel classes and lasted for three months.In English writing class,students in the experimental class were divided into several learning communities,and they were supposed to finish their writing tasks with the help of each other.In the control class,students followed the traditional way of teaching(teacher-directed teaching method).After finishing the writing tasks,students were asked to submit their compositions and then the teacher made comments on them.After three months’ experiment,the author collected and analyzed the results of the examination and questionnaires.The experimental result showed that the construction and application of learning community in senior high school English writing class is helpful to arouse students’ interest and improve student’s writing scores.This study proved that the construction and application of learning community benefits students,especially those with medium or low score in English writing examination.This study was theoretically significant in providing empirical research based on the previous relevant studies.Moreover,this study also helped English teachers to find an effective way to organize English writing class and focus more attention on students,leading position,which will arouse students’ interest in English writing and thus,improve students’ writing ability.
