Zhuzhi poem is a form of poetry similar to the seven-words poem, and it suits both refined and popular tastes.Taking local conditions and folk customs as major objects of depiction,Zhuzhi poem, with a witty and lively language style, has been popular since its origin. The Lujiang Zhu Zhi Poem(transcripted by Xie Zhangting and collected by the Hubei Provincial Museum)wrote by Xiao Baofen during the Tongzhi reign of the Qing dynasty, has only one existing copy, and has not been studied in other works.Lujiang is an alternative name of the Xiamen Island, the main urban area of Xiamen City today and a part of the Tong’an County during the Qing dynasty.Among all the 359 extant Zhuzhi poems about Xiamen,300 of them are from the Lujiang Zhu Zhi Poem by Xiao Baofen. After the Opium War,Xiamen was selected as a treaty port.Since then,it has gradually become a boom city.By taking the Lujiang Zhu Zhi Poem as basic materials and other people’s works in the same period as reference, this paper will discuss the social conditions, street lives, folk customs and beliefs of Xiamen during the late Qing dynasty.During the process of writing this paper, local records will be referenced and fieldwork will be carried out.
