Bicultural identity integration refers to how bicultural individuals perceive the extent to which their mainstream culture blend or conflict with other ethnic cultures, and a means for them to organize and understand both cultures.Since those returned overseas students had experienced two different social and cultural backgrounds, the loneliness they felt and the interpersonal trust they had built were not depend solely on one single culture, and their bicultural identity integration would largely influence their interpersonal trust and the loneliness they perceived. The purpose of this study is to explore the current situation and relationship between the bicultural identity integration, interpersonal trust and loneliness of returned overseas students, and mainly focus on analyzing and exploring the specific process of the bicultural identity integration experience, also the dilemmas and specific solutions during it,and what changes were brought to the group after the bicultural identity integration, and how exactly bicultural identity integration affects the interpersonal trust and loneliness. The whole research is divided into 2 parts.Research 1 uses the bicultural identity integration scale, faith in people scale and the loneliness scale,UCLA to conduct a questionnaire survey, effectively researching 200 people. The results show that the overall level of bicultural identity integration and 2 dimensions of bicultural individuals in returning overseas students is high, the overall level of interpersonal trust and the overall level of loneliness are also high. And the degree of bicultural identity integration can significantly positively predict interpersonal trust while significantly negatively predict loneliness, indicating that the higher the degree of bicultural identity integration, the more faith they have for others, the less loneliness they would feel.At the same time, interpersonal trust can significantly negatively predict the loneliness, indicating that the higher the interpersonal trust, the less loneliness experienced, and in the relationship between bicultural identity integration and loneliness, interpersonal trust plays an partial mediation role, indicating that bicultural individuals feel less loneliness, partly because their higher integration of the two cultures means better intergroup relationships and more openness and tolerance, which better helps individuals to integrate into groups and thus reduce their loneliness.Research 2 used semi-structured interviews and self-edited interview outlines. After indepth interviews with 20 returned overseas students, the grounded theory was used to analyze the data, and the theoretical model was established after coding step by step. The results show that for the bicultural individual in returning overseas students, the bicultural experience stems from the choice and preparation for studying abroad at the beginning, and the most encountered in the process of the entire bicultural experience.Common and biggest problems and stresses come from language, environment, and cultural and lifestyle differences;in the process,self-adapted strategies and the help of important others are the most mentioned strategies and resources,in addition, after the bicultural integration, the individuals will become more diverse. The most obvious two parts are the interpersonal trust that stems from the change of the situation and the change of attitude towards interpersonal relationship, and the "healed" loneliness more from the new sense of space and distance and the individual’s enhanced independence and autonomy.
