Research On Lost Only Child Parents’ Grief And Life Reconstruction

The lost only child family means the family who lost their only child and the parents no longer give birth or adopt children,and the lost only child parents means fathers and mothers in this kind of families.The psychological trauma brought by the death of only child is huge.Therefore,it is very necessary to give spiritual care to families who have lost their only child.In this regard,the author chose the grief and life reconstruction of the lost only child parents as the research topic,deeply interviewed 6 lost one child parents who were in the period of life reconstruction by the outline based on the theory,research and practice,and converted the interview information into text data,using Grounded Theory to encode and analyze the data word by word,the following conclusions are drawn.(1)The bereavement course of lost only child parents can be divided into three periods:shock and confusion,struggling with the grief,as well as life reconstruction,and the sadness mainly erupted in the first two periods.(2)In the period of shock and confusion,the cognitive ability and social function of the lost only child parents were significantly reduced,and they had a strong sense of loss,confusion,emptiness and extreme sadness.(3)In the period of struggling with the grief,the lost only child parents realized that they have to accept and adapt to the fact that their children have gone.They will show depression,guilt,anger,avoidance,and even show clinical symptoms.(4)life reconstruction usually begins in 1-2 years after the loss of the only child,and the process is relatively long.The motivation of reconstruction includes internal motivation and external motivation.(5)In the life reconstruction period,the lost only child parents will restore the life quality,the interpersonal communication and other life details,reestablish the emotional connection with their dead children,and some parents can complete the reconstruction of the deeper meaning of life,and form a new attitude towards life,and the view of life and death.(6)The lost only child parents’ psychological trauma are violent and irreversible,so their grief can not be completely dispelled,and can only be gradually restored after the beginning of life reconstruction,that is,grief and life reconstruction will eventually form a parallel state.On the basis of the conclusions,the author discusses and thinks deeply in three aspects:the process of grief recovery,the reconstruction of life and the spiritual care,and puts forward a series of suggestions on spiritual care,hoping to help the work of the government and the social organization as well as the psychological construction of lost only child family.
