| Inquiry teaching mode has become an important research topic in English teaching.Reading has always played a very important role in high school English teaching and it is also a difficult point in English teaching.Due to the increasing importance attached to the reading ability of Chinese high school students in English teaching.The research on the inquiry teaching mode on high school students’ English reading can help high school teachers better guide high school students to cultivate and develop their English reading ability.Based on constructivist learning theory,Ausubel’s meaningful learning theory and Piaget’s cognitive development theory,this experiment mainly focuses on the following two questions:(1)Is the inquiry teaching helpful for improving students’ English reading ability?(2)What are the students’ attitudes towards inquiry teaching?In this experiment,90 students are selected as the participants.They are all from Qin’ an No.5 high school.90 participants are divided equally into two classes.One class is chosen randomly as the control class while the other is experimental class.The control class doesn’t receive any new teaching instruction.The control class was taught reading with the traditional PWP teaching mode,and the experimental class was with the inquiry teaching mode.In this experiment,pre-test,post-test,questionnaire and interview are used as the research tools.Finally,the collected data are analyzed with SPSS21.0 software.The results of this study are as follows:(1)the experimental results show that the the application of the inquiry teaching mode helps to improve students’ reading ability and help them with effective reading strategies and skills,so students like the inquiry teaching mode and have a positive attitude towards it.(2)Most students hold a positive attitude towards the teacher’s inquiry teaching mode and they think that can really help improve their reading ability.Finally,on the basis of empirical research,this paper also puts forward some suggestions on reading teaching. |
