Study On The Monostratal Compound Sentence Of Sanxia Wuyi

By using Grammarian Xing Fuyi’s "Trichotomy" as the structural framework,the paper classifies the monostratal compound sentences of " Sanxia Wuyi " into causal compound sentence,coordinate compound sentence and turning compound sentence;there are 1717 monostratal compound sentences,91 different conjunctions and 115 different correlative structures in s"Sanxia Wuyi" namely,783 monostratal causal compound sentences(including 39 different conjunctions and 44 different correlative structures).558 monostratal coordinate compound sentences(including 29 different conjunctions and 47 different correlative structures)and 376 turning compound sentences(including 23 different conjunctions and 24 different correlative structures).Along the monostratal compound sentences,252 coherent compound sentences are found in "Sanxia Wuyi which is relatively more than other types of sentences;then followed by supposition compound sentences and inferential compound sentences,preferential compound sentence is the least,only 9.Therefore,the quantity of different types of monostratal compound sentences in "Sanxia Wuyi " is unevenOn this basis,the paper compares the conjunctions of "Sanxia Wuyi " with conjunctions of two other books "Pipa Ji" and "Xingshi Yinyuan Zhuan,and finds that:from "Sanxia Wuyi" to "Pipa Ji",most monosyllabic conjunctions are created in the ancient time with strong vitality and are still in use,for instance“园”“故”“却”and“但”etc.;the number of polysyllabic conjunctions is first increased and then decreased—durins the middle ages and modem Chinese periods a large number of polysyllabic conjunctions are created,but in the process of vocabulary development.some polysyllabic conjunctions with strong classical Chinese cultural style and regional characteristics are gradually disappeared;the number of conrelative structures is increasing and varied and the use scope of correlative structures becomes wider and wider.The ways of conjunctions used in the compound sentences gradually evolves from single use to collocational use.Through the above analysis and comparison it can be seen that the characteristics of the conjunctions used in"Sanxia Wuyi " are:a large number of conjunctions created in the ancient and medieval times are used;the use of conjunctions is free and the collocational format is varied;the part of speech of conjunctions is relatively simple and there are a large number of conjunctions;disyllabic pattern is basically formed and the system of conjunction has been basically complete.The overall characteristics of monostratal compound sentences in "Sanxia Wuyi " are that:the styles and systems of complex sentences are completed but the distribution is unequal—the two specific expressions of this are that there are great differences between the numbers of different style complex sentences,and there are great differences between the numbers of subcategories of some complex sentences;many conjunctions are used and with multifunction and freedom as its features;the syntactic structure is rigorous,and the language expression is complex and changeable.
