Stylistics is the study of style by means of linguistic. Its research scope mainly includes stylistics, literary stylistics and theoretical stylistics.Literary stylistics studies the use of language in literary works. It uses linguistic methods as a tool to describe and interpret literary works such as poetry, novels and drama. The concept of “foregrounding” comes from Russian formalism and is one of the most important concepts in stylistics. The “foregrounding” theory analyzes text from both deviation and parallel aspects, taking into account both content and form in this process.A Song of Ice and Fire: A Game of Thrones is a fantasy epic about the power and struggle among the major families on the fictional Westeros continent. The work is not only magnificent in content, but also unique in language. In this paper,A Song of Ice and Fire: A Game of Thrones translated by Tan Guanglei and Qu Chang is taken as the example. From the perspective of literary stylistics, the foregrounding theory of Leech and Short is used for reference to find out the parallelism and deviation of phonetics, phonology, vocabulary and syntax in the Chinese version of A Song of Ice and Fire: A Game of Thrones,so as to analyze how the translator reproduces and retains the original style in the translation. The author finds that in the translation, the translator mainly adopts the following three translation methods: transliteration, literal translation and imitation.Among them, the translation techniques used include the following aspects:(1)try to retain the foreground language features(addition, combination and conversion)specially used in the original text in order to achieve the stylistic style;(2)owing to the differences between Chinese and English, only part of the foregrounding features of the original text are retained(omission and conversion);(3)directly ignore the foregrounding feature of the original text(omission).Through the above translation methods and techniques, the translation better reproduces the foregrounding features of the original text.
