Although task-based teaching method is helpful to promote the improvement of students' comprehensive English language ability,it will also appear in the task-based English teaching that students' participation in class is uneven. And even some students “stray” in the task-based English teaching. Both filed theory and social environment theory point out that there is a close relationship between man's behavior and their environment.Taking this as a starting point, this study investigate students' perception of the psycho-social environment and their participation in task-based English class by determining the objective factors of the psycho-social classroom environment. Then forming a survey scale, and analyze how students' perception of psycho-social classroom environment affects their participation in task-based English class. The results of this study are expected to help other researchers or first-line English teachers to think about how to improve the classroom environment and the participation of some students in task-based English teaching. The research belongs to empirical research,so it adopts the research method of combining quantitative research and qualitative research.By referring to the existing research results on the factors constituting the classroom environment, this paper determines the factors constituting the psycho-social environment of English class in this study and constructs an psycho-social classroom environment model, which is a qualitative research. The results of high school students' perception of psycho-social environment of English class and class participation need to present the overall situation of group, which is more suitable for quantitative research. The English classroom environment in this study is limited to social and psychological environment, excluding physical environment. Therefore,by referring to the existing research results, the components of psycho-social environment of English class are determined as follows: peer affinity;teacher's support;taskorientation;classroom participation;students' cooperation;students' responsibility;equality;leadership by teacher;teacher's innovation, these nine constituent elements.Through quantitative analysis of the data collected from questionnaire, the research results are as follows: first, students' overall perception of the psycho-social environment of English class is at a medium or low level, which indicates that students are not satisfied with the English classroom environment they are in.Among them, students' perception of “peer affinity” is the best, and their perception of “teacher's support” and “teacher's innovation” is the worst;female students' perception of psycho-social environment of English class is higher than that of male students, and the liberal arts students are higher than that of science students.Second,in terms of classroom participation, the overall participation rate of students is still on a low level, among which the participation rate of female students is higher than that of male students and that of liberal arts students are higher than that of science students.Third, students' perception of psycho-social environment they are in is positively correlated with their class participation. The higher and more positive the students' perception of the psycho-social environment is,the higher their class participation will be.On the contrary, the lower and more negative the students' perception of the psycho-social environment is,the the lower their class participation will be.
