| This is a translation report of an academic paper published on Asia Pacific Viewpoint in 201 1,named The Challenge of Sustainable Tourism Development in the Maldives:Understanding the Social and Political Dimensions of Sustainability(hereinafter referred to as the“ST"(source text)),which mainly describes the problems of the Maldives in sustainable tourism development and proposes some advice on the problems.The source text belongs to an informative one,according to the Katharina Reiss’s(2004)text typology.Based on it,the goal of the thesis is to analyze the characteristics of academic informative texts and their corresponding translation strategies.This thesis consists of 5 parts:introduction,translation theories,translation process,the difficulty and case study,and conclusion.The first chapter introduces the background materials of the translation project and the linguistic features of the text to lay the foundation for translation.The second chapter gives a detailed presentation of Reiss’s text typology theory,especially informative texts and their functional characteristics,and the translation strategy proposed—domestication.The third chapter consists of the three processes of translation:before,during and after translation.The fourth chapter analyzes the translation methods of academic informative texts from the lexical,syntactic and textual aspects,which are based on the domestication translation strategy and the linguistic features of academic informative texts.Finally,the paper summarizes the whole thesis,including the gains and losses in the process of translation and the experience,and some insights into the translation of academic informative texts,hoping to provide certain research significance for this type of text translation practice. |
