"Chinese literature go global" is one of the hottest topics in the Chinese translation industry in recent years. In 2007,as the representative writer of local literature,Jia Pingwa, published the novel Gao Xing.Gao Xing is a story about Happy Liu and his friend Wufu, who went to work in Xi'an City and became scavengers, and a series of stories followed after that. The novel manifests Jia Pingwa's consistent concern for peasants and depicts the lives of city peasant scavengers. In 2008,Nicky published its translation excerpt on The Guardian. On October 1st,2017,under the joint efforts of Nicky Harman and the editors of the Amazon Crossing,Amazon launched the global publication of the English version of Gao Xing,Happy Dreams. After its publication, the novel has received recognition from both professional journals and readers.Translation and culture have always been closely related and intertwined. In the1970 s,the study of translation began the cultural turn, and Lefevere's manipulation theory is exactly one of the products of cultural turn. This thesis is based on Lefevere's manipulation theory, studying Happy Dreams from three aspects, namely, ideology, poetics and patronage, hoping to provide a reference for the study of Happy Dreams and the English translation of Jia Pingwa's novels as well as some advice for Chinese literature going out.The study finds that when Nicky was translating Happy Dreams, she was influenced by the patron,Amazon Crossing to a certain extent. In order to cater to the ideology and poetics of target readers, she adopts a domestication-oriented and foreignization-associated translation strategy and translation methods such as,literal translation, free translation, amplification and omission to reduce cultural barriers for target readers. She uses English idioms and slang to replace the dialect words in the source text, making them easier to understand and increasing the readability and target reader's acceptance. At the same time, this paper also studies the new model of Amazon Crossing to promote translated novels and proposes some suggestions to help Chineseliterature better go global, that is,not only professional bilingual translators are needed, but also newly emerging online platforms such as Amazon should be made full use of to give full play to their rapid dissemination of information and wide coverage of readers.
