| The Compulsory Education English Curriculum Standards(Ministry of Education 2011)pointed out that the overall goal of the English course in compulsory education is to form preliminary comprehensive language application ability through English learning to improve students’ comprehensive humanities literacy.Reading teaching is an important means to cultivate students’ ability to use comprehensive language.Students’ reading cognition is inseparable from the intermediary role of teachers.Therefore,it is necessary to better understand the cognition and practice of junior middle school English teachers in teachers’ mediation role in reading teaching,which is not only conducive to the development of students,but also promotes teachers’ theory of mediation.This paper uses the 12 mediation factors of the Feuerstein’s mediation theory as the standard.The questionnaire survey of 200 students and 20 teachers is to investigate English teachers’ cognition on the teachers’ mediation role in reading teaching in junior middle school as well as students view on the implementation of teachers’ mediation role in the classroom.The data was then collated and analyzed by means of SPSS 20.0.Through interviews with 20 students and 8 teachers,both the teachers and students have a more in-depth view of the role of teacher mediation,and it also helps the author to explore this paper.The study has the following two findings.The results show that the English teachers have a good understanding of the mediation role of teachers,and can well apply it well to the junior middle school English reading teaching.Except the three intermediaries of sharing,personality and sense of belonging,the implementation of teachers and students’ views on the implementation of teachers have been highly consistent.Teachers play a good role in mediating.Based on the above findings,the study proposes the following recommendations.Firstly,teachers should organize group cooperative learning and focus on cultivating learners’ cooperation.Secondly,teachers should treat the students equally and find out the suitable teaching methods for students.Thirdly,teachers should make learnershave a sense of belonging and promote the development of students.Fourthly,teachers should always reflect on their own teaching ideas and practices. |
