This critical commentary is divided into four parts:introduction, theoretical guidance, the application of translation shifts in the translation, and conclusion. The first part introduces the source text, the stylistic features of the source text at lexical and syntactic levels, and the significance of the translation.Proceeding from the source text’s stylistic type and features, the second part first introduces Catford’s translation shift theory and then details the important components of the theory.Level shifts,structure-shifts,class-shifts,and unit—shifts are introduced in the third part and examples are extracted from both the original text and its translation to elaborate on the translation process under the guidance of translation shift theory. The fourth part,or the conclusion, summarizes the whole translation process and proves that Catford’s translation shift theory is feasible and effective in the translation of informative texts aiming to deliver information of natural sciences and social sciences. The conclusion also touches on the possible shortcomings of the translation and translator’^reflections on the whole process of translationIn 2005,the World Summit on Sustainable Development set a collection of 17 global goals for sustainable development from 2015 to 2030."End hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition, and promote sustainable agriculture"is one of the 17 goals.Robert Biel offered constructive suggestions in his book Sustainable Food Systems:The Role of the City in response to the need for a<"new paradigm,"based on"sustainable intensification"proposed by the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization to seek win—win solutions to ecological—social problems. Therefore, this book is highly relevant to the sustainable development of the international community in the coming decades. Moreover, the translation of such texts is conducive to popularizing advanced agricultural facts, providing more diversified references for domestic scholars, and pushing forward agricultural specialists’ in-depth research.
