| From 1950’s to the beginning of 60’s in the 20th century,it was the beginning stage of Teaching Chinese as a Second Language in New China,and the Modern Chinese Reader published in 1958 was a summary of the achievements of TCSL at this stage.Taking Modern Chinese Reader as the research object,combining the time background and teaching theory at that time,using the method of combining statistics,quantitative,qualitative and contrast,this paper studies the phonetics and vocabulary of the textbook,and summarizes its characteristics and significance.There are five chapters in the thesis.The first chapter introduces the origin and significance of the topic,defines the research object,research contents and research methods,and summarizes the related research.In the origin of the topic,the author explains why the phonetics and vocabulary are chosen as the content of the study,because this paper thinks that these two elements can best reflect the characteristics of the times.The second chapter introduces the general situation of compiling Chinese textbook,including the background and basis of compiling the textbook.The background of the book is closely related to the diplomatic and domestic environment,the characteristics of the teaching objects and the teaching plan and objectives.The foundation of writing includes the editor-in-chief Deng Yi and the teaching methods used at that time,the basic of linguistics theory at that time,the foundation of phonetics teaching and the foundation of vocabulary teaching.Among them,Professor Deng Yi’s experience in the American Army Chinese language Training Program(ASTP)at Harvard University has had an important influence on the teaching methods of the specialized classes.The purpose and style of compiling Chinese textbook in the last section The purpose of this paper is to make Chinese beginners get a preliminary understanding of Chinese and improve their listening.speaking.reading and writing skills.The third chapter studies the phonetics teaching content compilation of Modern Chinese Reader,and introduces the phonetic annotation and the arrangement of phonetics content,including the design of phonetics practice.Finally,the characteristics of phonetic writing are summarized,including the influence of structuralism,the emphasis on factor teaching,the systematic explanation of phonological knowledge,the emphasis on pronunciation difficulties,the emphasis on repeated practice of pronunciation,and the emphasis on pronunciation accuracy.The phonetic features of Beijing dialect are obvious.The fourth chapter studies the compilation of the vocabulary part of the Modern Chinese Reader.This chapter mainly refers to the outline of Chinese level Vocabulary and Chinese characters and the Modern Chinese Classification Dictionary,and discusses the number of words.This paper analyzes three aspects of difficulty level and semantic classification,and summarizes the characteristics of vocabulary compilation:strictly controlling vocabulary size,serving grammar teaching,and paying attention to the political ideology of vocabulary.The fifth chapter concludes the pronunciation of Modern Chinese Reader,the principles and characteristics of vocabulary compilation,and the historical significance and deficiency of Modern Chinese Reader.The main principles embodied are the strong pertinence,the emphasis on spoken language,and the emphasis on pronunciation.The historical significance of Modern Chinese Reader is mainly reflected in its function of linking the past and the future in the history of textbooks for Teaching Chinese as a Second Language,in line with the requirements of the new Chinese language policy and political environment for the compilation of teaching materials.There are two aspects of deficiency:too much explanation of phonetics theory and less vocabulary of daily life.Finally,the shortcomings and prospects of this study are pointed out. |
