The translation report is based on the E-C Translation of Bathroom Dance and Only Connect which are extracted from collection of stories Learning to Dance written by Elizabeth Jolley.Bathroom Dance tells about the author’s nursing experience in a hospital in wartime,while Only Connect recounts the author’s salesman and cleaning experiences.The texts have not been translated into Chinese up to now,so the translation and research of the texts will have reference value to those who are interested in Elizabeth Jolley’s works.There are many descriptions of scenes,dialogues and stories in the texts.How to translate different characters through dialogues,how to translate contrastive words to accurately reflect the author’s intention,and how to translate rhetorical sentences to show the essence of the original sentence and to meet the requirements of the target language readers are the main difficulties the translator encountered.Under the guidance of three rules of Skopos Theory of Vermeer,the translator analyzed the source text with earnest and adopted various translation techniques such as amplification,conversion and reconstruction to solve the problems.It is expected that the report can provide referential experience for the translation of similar genre.
