Compared with the other language basic skills,vocabulary is often considered to be one of the most important parts in English teaching.Many pupils have felt it very difficult to memorize vocabulary effectively.In addition,they cannot keep a long memory with the new words.This research project aims to explore the effects of the Situational Language Teaching Method based on multimedia technology on primary school students' English vocabulary learning and deal with the current vocabulary teaching and learning problems.The following questions are to be addressed in the research:Question 1: How can Situational Language Teaching Method based on multimedia technology improve the students' learning motivation in studying English vocabulary?Question 2: To what extent can multimedia technology support Situational Language Teaching Method in English vocabulary teaching?Question 3: To what extent can Situational Language Teaching Method based on multimedia technology in English vocabulary teaching improve the students' vocabulary proficiency?This experimental research was carried out in Xiliu Central Primary School which is situated in Haicheng City,Liaoning Province,lasting 18 weeks from 3th September2018 to 7th January 2019.Ninety-one research participants were chosen from two equal level classes of Grade Four.Class Five was regarded as the experimental class(EC)while Class Six was designed as the control class(CC).During the period of teaching experiment,the CC was still taught by the traditional English teaching method while the EC was taught with the Situational Language Teaching Method based on multimedia technology.All the data were collected by questionnaires,pre-and post-test together with the interview and were analyzed by qualitative and quantitative methods.The research findings indicate that students' learning motivation have been improved significantly than before after using the Situational Language Teaching Method based on multimedia technology,.Multimedia technology supports the Situational Language Teaching Method in teaching English vocabulary to a great extent.Additionally,the students' vocabulary learning proficiency has been noticeably improved.As a result,teaching English vocabulary with the Situational Language Teaching based on multimedia technology is very efficient.Finally,some pedagogical implications and suggestions are discussed,which are expected to have positive effects on students' learning,teachers' teaching as well as the further research.
